  • Kids bringing in photographs to talk about or seniors bring pictures
  • Develop questions for elders and interview them during visits. Creating a hard cover book – IG questions for residents
  • Bring coaching cards up to use as prompts
  • Draw pictures
  • Draw portraits of each other. Label portraits with descriptive words on character of person – suggested book: If I Wrote A Book About You, S. Aulenback
  • Writing for a purpose
  • Poem book of words related to seniors
  • Theme Visits:
    • Pyjama Day
    • Teddy Bears Picnic – suggested book: Ira sleeps over
    • Pirate Day

  • Bringing Nature In:
    • Nature Art – children collect objects from nature (leaves, pebbles, sticks, pinecones…) that they bring in – suggested inspiration/books: Andy Goldsworthy
    • Leaf art (create) then photocopy to preserve
    • Planting seeds, making garden signs, travel to local gardens or have local “experts” in.
    • Travelling garden- bring plants to facility and have students and seniors share knowledge
  • Easter: Bunny nose stick art, sing song to show seniors as ‘thank you’ for eggs
  • Discovery bottles – create and share with seniors. It is interesting to make discovery bottles in various ways provoking observation and discussion
    • Put in a few drops of glycerine/corn syrup/oil/hair get with distilled water
    • Add different size glitter/gems/small objects and food colour
    • Glue figurine in with epoxy glue after sanding top of lid under where figurine will be glued (optional)
